Margery Moore (1907–93) was an English music educator and composer. I discovered Margery Moore’s published organ music in the summer of  2025 and was bemused to find next to no information about the composer herself. Thus bemused,  I went off ‘to do sone digging’ and as a result I have started a ‘Margery Moore’ ⓦWikipediaⓦ page – link below –  and hopefully, over time,  other folk will add to the information there? Meanwhile …

Margey Moore: a biographical sketch.
Margery Moore was born in Birkenhead and raised in Plymouth, where her musical skills first came to wider attention, not least in 1928 when the BBC broadcast The Margery Moore String Quartet in a concert from Plymouth; she played viola.

In 1929 Margery was living in London where until 1960 we find her working in a number of posts as a music educator while writing pedagogical articles for The Musical Times and publishing music with the firms of Novello and Co, Boosey and Hawkes, Curwen, and Stainer and Bell. In 1932 her opera ‘Drake’ was first performed in Plynouth. From 1960 onwards traces of Margery Moore’s life disappear from the records until a notice of her death in north-east London in 1993.

Margery Moore and the organ
There is no information to indicate that Margery Moore ever played the organ professionally. However, from 1934-36 she produced a total of ten works for organ (in four volumes) for the London publisher Novello and Co. as part of that firm’s collection Original Compositions (New Series), the works presented here. These pieces are very much in the spirit of Moore’s English organist-composer contemporaries such as Eric Thiman (1900–75) and Percy Whitlock (1903–46).
